Leadership, group dynamics, intercultural learning, contact with local community, learning dimension, international volunteer projects in a nutshell - everything you need to know to lead international volunteer project, workcamp or youth exchange
International volunteer projects — workcamps and youth exchanges, have central place in the activities of many youth and voluntary service organizations. Each project needs a campleader, or coordinator, or teamer, or groupleader. Names could be many, functions may vary — still, leader is one of the keys to success of the international volunteer project. With the proposed training we aim to prepare leaders in international atmosphere, discuss different aspects of international volunteer projects — on example of workcamp and youth exchange — and their preparation, international cooperation between partners, leadership, solving conflicts and other issues related to leading a project and international group. The special focus of the training will be intercultural learning in the group, how to organize it beyond traditional international evening. Together we'll brainstorm to develop some ideas for activities and methods on intercultural learning in workcamps and youth exchanges. Participants will also learn about online info resource for leaders — campleader wiki, which will be completed with new materials from the training. The training course is organized by IVS-UK and SVIT-Ukraine in partnership with Service Civil International with financial support of Youth in Action programme, UK National Agency British Council. Participants: The training is targeted at activists of SCI branches, youth and voluntary organizations, who will be leading international volunteer workcamps or youth exchanges during the summer 2013, who already have experience of participating to a workcamp or youth exchange. We are looking forward for participants from Austria, Bulgaria, Spain, Hungary, Slovenia, UK, Armenia, Italy, Georgia, Ukraine, Serbia, Russia, Belarus and Romania. The program will include the following topics: Ø Why international aspect of youth and volunteer projects, Ø Responsibilities of different sides involved in a workcamp/youth exchange Ø Leadership and group-dynamics, decision-making in the group Ø Intercultural communication and learning, how to organize intercultural learning beyond tradigional international evening Ø Practical arrangements Ø Self-organization of the group, delegating responsibilities Ø Contact and activities with local community in international workcamp/youth exchange Ø Conflicts and emergency situations, how to prevent and solve Ø Workshops on peace issues, environmental sustainability or other potential study part topics, organized by the participants

“SVIT-Ukraine” is a non-governmental non-profit organization, established in 2000 and officially registered in 2005. The aim of the organization is to support development of volunteer movement in Ukraine.
SVIT is building its work on the principles of self-governance, openness, legality, transparency, democracy, activism and creative initiative of its members, cooperation with state bodies, local authorities and public organizations in Ukraine and abroad, and tolerance. The organization is active on the territory of Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Lugansk, Kharkov and Donetsk regions and cooperates with partners from other regions of Ukraine.
The main activity is organization of international volunteer projects on environmental, social, cultural topics, work with disadvantaged children etc. We also organize seminars, workshops and trainings to inform youth about volunteering and volunteer projects, involve new partners at local level, and have hosting projects for long-term volunteers. SVIT-Ukraine is a branch of Service Civil International (SCI, www.sciint.org), an international network of voluntary service organizations with over 90 years of experience in promoting peace and international volunteer work.

Costs

All costs concerning meals and accommodation as well as the program and materials will be fully covered for the whole duration of the training. The participation fee for Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Belarus and Serbia participants is 25 Euros, for Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia is 30 Euro, and for Italy, Austria, UK, Spain – 35 Euro. Travel costs will be reimbursed 70%. Please consider impact at environment, while planning your travel.
