University Study Visit: Youth and Community Work in the UK

The main aim of the Study Visit is to promote international Youth Work and intercultural competence within these institutions. Through linking Youth and Community Work programmes to Erasmus+ Youth, European youth policy and the European Training Strategy, the project also aims towards recognition of Non-Formal Learning and greater professionalisation of Youth Workers and Youth Work training. This project follows on from the Formal and Non - Formal Education of Youth Workers TCA seminar on Youth Work curricula that took place in Slovakia in Autumn 2014. It also links to the ‘Among Others’ project, held in co-operation between the Czech, Hungarian, Irish, Polish and UK National Agencies. As this is a study visit participants will visit four universities running courses in Youth Work: - Newman University (Birmingham) - University of Gloucestershire (Cheltenham Spa Campus) - De Montfort University (Leicester) - University College Birmingham Participants will also visit the UK National Youth Agency (www.nya.org.uk – please note this is not the same as Erasmus+ UK National Agency). Objectives - To look at different ways that UK Youth and Community Work courses (in HE and other sectors) incorporate international work and intercultural competence modules - To share experiences from participants’ countries of how international work and intercultural competence are incorporated into Youth and Community Work courses - To create links between Youth and Community Work faculties and European programmes (particularly Erasmus+), European Youth Policy, and the European Training Strategy Participant Profile We welcome applications from youth workers with experience in non-formal education. We will also be happy to welcome applications from representatives of Higher and Further educational establishments working within youth work, including university teachers, course co-ordinators, post-graduate students and other staff members of higher/further education institutions interested in implementing education programmes for Youth and Community Work across Europe. We also welcome applications from representatives of National Agencies for Erasmus+, representatives from local authorities, as well as representatives of accrediting bodies, youth councils and similar agencies dealing with youth worker education
