“Democracy 2.0 : think Europe, act local” is an experiential training course that aims to develop participants' skills to support young people abilities to take part in the democratic life by focusing on information, debate and decision making processes.
“Democracy 2.0 : think Europe, act local” is an experiential training course that aims to develop participants' skills to address issues related to democratic values and processes, as well as foster their youth worker skills to support young people abilities to take part in the democratic life at local level, by focusing on information, debate and decision making processes. The project is organized by Opportunity Sweden. It will take place in Gothenburg, the second biggest city of Sweden, from the 29th of June to the 10th of July 2017. Participants will come from 7 different European countries (Italy, Hungary, Greece, Cyprus, Estonia, UK and Sweden). This project aim is to develop competences needed to foster youth active participation in the democratic life by strengthening young citizens’ ability to develop informed opinions, to participate in the citizen dialogue and in decision-making processes. During this training course, the participants will acquire or improve a variety of abilities related to active participation of young people, including: * understanding of the concept of youth participation, and the different level of participation, according to the model of the participation ladder (Harts). * ability to identify the variety of dimensions and actions included in active citizenship. * ability to create and facilitate awareness-raising activities on citizenship targeting young people to promote their active participation. * understanding the role of critical thinking and system thinking in the development of a personal opinion based on different information sources. knowledge and experience of different kinds of on-line and presential methods and tools for engaging young people in giving their opinion, taking position and sharing their ideas about democratic life. * knowledge about the different kinds of decision-making processes (majority, consensus, etc.). * ability to identify in context the different roles one can take on during a debate or discussion (based on the four practices for dialogue from W.N. Isaacs). * skills related to active citizenship (critical thinking, system thinking, argumentation, active listening, decision making etc.). * ability to develop non-formal education activities for young people to increase those relevant skills. * attitude fostering the active participation of young people in debating democratic life topics such as respect of differences, neutrality and active listening. Travel cost reimbursement according to Erasmus+ program up to max: Estonia, Italy, Hungary, UK: 275€ Greece, Cyprus : 360 € Sweden: travel reimbursement to be discussed with Opportunity Sweden Accommodation, food, and training costs covered entirely, no participation asked to the participants
