Practice Peace 2017/18

Training Course

28 October 2017 - 8 February 2018 | Krzyżowa (Poland), Novi Sad (Serbia), Poland

Practice Peace is a two-stage training course on discrimination, conflict management and peace. It involves a simulation game and methods from the Theatre of the Oppressed.
What is discrimination and how can it be effectively countered? That is the guiding question of the two-stage training course Practice Peace. It offers an opportunity to: (*) Deepen your understanding of conflict resolution, discrimination and peace; (*) Acquire educational tools how to work on and counter discrimination; (*) Network and develop own ideas with participants from six different countries. The first part (28.10. - 03.11.2017 in Krzyżowa, Poland) consists of a simulation game. The participants immerse themselves in a scenario from the Northern Ireland Conflict and take the role of real-life figures. They acquire an understanding of social, religious and political discrimination and develop strategies how to counter discrimination effectively. In the second part (03.02. - 08.02.2018 in Novi Sad, Serbia), participants get to know practical anti-discrimination methods from the Theatre of the Oppressed and learn how apply them in their individual work context. We will actively involve the participants and engage our brains, hearts and bodies. Apart from a simulation game and methods from the Theatre of the Oppressed (Augusto Boal), our methodological approach includes theoretical inputs, discussions, workshops, reflections, best-practice examples, excursions, cooperation games, open space and others. The seminar language will be English. Participants are expected to be able to communicate fluently in English.

Organiser:

Kreisau-Initiative e.V. (Youth NGO)

Kreisau-Initiative is a non-governmental organisation in the field of non-formal education. With our youth exchanges and trainings for adults we bring together hundreds of young people from all over Europe each year.

MISSION
As committed citizens of the European continent we are supporting the integration of Europe and “New Kreisau”. Based on the ideas of the Kreisau Circle and Central and Eastern Europe opposition movements we connect people from different origins through active remembrance, mutual perception and constructive creation.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO US?
Through our work we feel obliged to the following values:
- European Understanding through actively dealing with the history of resistance and opposition during the 20th century;
-Individual sense of responsibility as the foundation for a democratic European civil society;
- Ethical orientation to universal human rights;
- Inclusion and involvement of people from different social, national and ethnic backgrounds, despite age, gender, political and religious beliefs, sexual orientation and constraints;

Our educational approach is characterized by action orientation, experiential learning as well as debating important political and social issues of our times.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO BE?
Kreisau-Initiative e.V. is an important partner of the "Krzyżowa" Foundation in Germany and a creative mind in the Kreisau network. We want to keep on being a vivid nongovernmental organisation in the future, where people from all over Germany get involved. Furthermore, we want to connect Kreisau/ Krzyżowa even more with civil society in Germany and Europe, introduce it to a broader public and gain decision makers for the realisation of our ideas.

We conduct our projects in close cooperation with the "Krzyżowa" Foundation and develop them continuously in a programmatically and methodically. Through our work we are a reliable partner for donors and cooperating institutions as well as a recognized educational institution in Germany and Europe for innovative projects, which are particularly aimed at participants usually neglected in international exchange.
