Democracy Reloading Stakeholder Conference

Conference – Symposium - Forum

26-29 October 2021 | Portimáo, Portugal

Conference is about the role of municipalities in developing local democracy through youth participation in decision-making. It will support the improvement of the relevant competences of municipalities through exchange of practices and learning path

Democracy Reloading is a Strategic Prtnership of 17 Eramus+ Youth national agencies, grounded in the values and principles of democracy, human rights, equality, and the rule of law. Its online Toolkit is based on a set of 24 competences required for a local (municipal) or regional government to design, implement and evaluate a successful youth participation structures and concepts, to engage young people in the decision-making. The  specific objectives of the  Conference:

  • to reflect on the role and the opportunities of municipalities in reloading democracy
  • to officially introduce the Democracy Reloading Strategic Partnership for municipalities, and present the outcomes and lessons learnt from the Democracy Reloaded activities between 2015-2020
  • to exchange good practices and Eramus + projects of youth participation in decision making as tools for developing local democracy,
  • to reflect on the use of of the Democracy Reloading Toolkit and to identify its further potentials,
  • to support the development of relevant national and European networks of stakeholders, practitioners of youth participation in municipal decision-making and local democracy.

The participants of the Launching Conference have been selected already. 69 participants who confirmed their participation will be contacted in September to send their travel details to the organisers. Selection was based on the following criteria:

  • Priority 1: Officers/administrators who work in/for local or regional municipalities in the field of youth policy (relevant elected council representatives are also included),
  • Priority 2: Youth workers working in the field of youth participation in municipal decision-making (in support of engaging young people in decision-making), 
  • Priority 3: Trainers and consultants experienced in youth participation in decision-making,

The organisers invite representatives of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the EC-CoE Youth Partnership, ALDA European Association of Local Democracy, SALTO Youth Participation, Europe Goes Local, Intercity Youth and some other relevant organisations.

Participation fee

If you are selected for this course, all costs (accommodation in SINGLE rooms, travel, visa, etc.) relevant to participation in the course will be covered by the National Agencies involved in this project - except a PARTICIPATION FEE which varies from country to country.

Accommodation and food

The hosting National Agency of this offer will organise the accommodation and covers the costs for accommodation (in SINGLE rooms) for three nights and food for the duration of the conference programme. First meal is dinner on the 26th, and last meal is breakfast on the 29th.

Travel reimbursement

Please contact your Erasmus + National Agency to learn more about the financial details, and how to arrange the booking of your travel tickets and the reimbursement of your travel expenses.

The arrival day is the 26th October, Tuesday in the afternoon and departure is on the 29th October, Friday any time during the day.
