Study Visit on Refugee Work in Finland

Study Visit

3-7 October 2022 | Helsinki and Tampere, Finland

In the study visit you can see practices from Finnish organisations that work with refugees. You will understand why certain services have been put up and what kind of needs do they serve. You may be able to transfer practices to your own reality.

Practices from refugee work

In your work with refugees and migrants you are faced with different needs they have. In this study visit you can see what kind of services and working ways have been put up in Finland for refugees and other migrants.

The great influx of refugees to Western Europe in 2015 put organisations and authorities in a new kind of situation. It also produced many working ways that are continuously used, because they are useful in different stages of a migrant's proces: when entering the new country and later when settling in and building a life in a new country.

Three days, three topics

The needs of the refugees and migrants are different at different stages. We will visit organisations that support refugees at different stages

  • When entering the new country with big needs for necessities
  • When settling in and integrating into the society
  • When settling in as a young person

The study visit allows you to visit different organisations with different roles in the process. You will see what they do in practice and why they have chosen to offer the service.

For people working with refugees

This study visit is suitable for you if you are working with refugees or migrants. You may be a practical worker or someone who is planning activities. You should have a relevant role in the work and a regular or permanent job in the organisation. You must be over 18 years old.

The study visit focuses on the work on organsiation level. If you are interested in only updating your information about refugee work or developing your personal skills without any link to an organisation, you are not the right participant for the study visit.

A priority is given to the organisations who work with Ukraininan refugees at the moment.

Two cities

The study visit is organised in Helsinki and Tampere. In Tampere we will focus on work with refugee background young people.

Small steps for a better world

In our activities we support the principle of a safer space, where no one is discriminated or bullied because of their background or person. We want you to respect the same principle.

We also strive to make the world a little bit greener. This is why we are primarily choosing vegetarian or otherwise sustainable diets whenever possible.
