YOUTH2019 - Finnish National Youth Work Days
The Finnish youth field comes together every year for Youth Work Days. YOUTH2019 gathers about 1000 youth work professionals (youth workers, researchers and policy-makers) to discuss, evaluate, innovate and develop their work among young people.
YOUTH2019 is two-day programmed conference which consists of a wide variety of current topics in youth work. Part of the activity is a fair with Finnish youth work organisations presenting their work and are available for discussions about their practices with different target groups and topics.
Alongside the fair, dozens of sessions about youth work are run in parallel workshops. In cooperation with the National Youth Council Allianssi, the Finnish NA has prepared a programme that is available in English for international guests.
Finnish and European topics
The programme in English is not exclusively for international participants. Rather, it is aimed for the Finnish youth workers too. Hopefully, the sessions can open up good discussions about youth work in Europe between representatives of different countries.
Programme elements have not yet been finalised but some topics have already been decided:
- Visits to youth work organisations in Turku and Helsinki
- Introduction to Finnish Youth Work
- European Youth Strategy 2019-2027 with COM
- Presentations of organisations and projects
- Discussions of European challenges affecting youth
- Cross-sectoral co-operation in youth work
- Competence Model for Youth Workers to Work Internationally
- Inclusive youth work
- Current topics in Youth Research Finland/Croatia
- Opportunities in the European Solidarity Corps Programme
The cultural programme during conference evenings allow more relaxed interaction with the Finnish youth workers.
Opening and Closing ceremonies are interpreted into English.
A Medieval Town and Modern Youth Work
Turku, the former capital of Finland (in the Swedish times) is the second largest city in Finland. It is situated on the South-West coast of Finland. The travel time on bus or train from Helsinki is roughly two hours.
As a large city Turku organises very diverse youth work and for the visits we try to organise visits to the most interesting and innovative practices.
We organise visits to youth work organisations in Turku the day before YOUTH2019 and if needed also on the day after in Helsinki.
An international Group
We have previously agreed with a group of countries that they will send participants to this activity and take care of their participation fees. The following countries are agreed to send participants to YOUTH2019:
- Austria
- Belgium Flanders
- Denmark
- Germany
- Italy
- Liechtenstein
- Poland
- Switzerland
Other countries can open the call too, but the priority is given for the countries listed in here. The countries outside the list will have to agree to pay 110€ per participant as the participation fee (National Youth Council collects the fee from everybody). We have maximum 35 places available.

Costs
Participation fee
We will invoice the participation fee from the sending National Agencies. It will be 90€ per each participant the NA sends to the activity.
The matter with the participation fee may be handled differently in different countries. Please contact your National Agency to ask if they will cover the fee for you.

Accommodation and food
The Finnish National Agency will cover the meals, accommodation and transportation during the activity:
- Dinners on 26-28 March
- Lunches on 27-29 March
- Transoprt from Turku to Helsinki on 28/29 March
- Accommodation in twin rooms on 26-29 March
Breakfast is included in the hotel accommodation.

The imbursement of travel costs may vary indifferent countries. Please contact your own National Agency to see how travel costs are reimbursed in your country.
