Study Visit

This study visit provides opportunities to learn more about municipal youth work (city youth work) practices in Finland and how quality youth work is implemented.
The study visit is intended for you who would like to learn more about how youth work is implemented in the municipalities in Finland, especially in the capital city region. During this study visit we will focus on municipal youth work through visits to youth centers, encountering policy makers and other stakeholders as well as sharing good practices and networking. The Finnish youth work is professional and well developed in its nature. It contains a great variety of practices, which can be applied and adapted in different contexts. This is a great opportunity to gain insights how the quality of local youth work is improved through enhanced cooperation between various stakeholders.
Aims and objectives of the training
* Learn about youth work setting in Finland focusing on municipal youth work
* Learn more about how youth work in Finland is assessed and developed with an research and evidence based approach
* Learn different ways to involve and address the needs of young people
* Familiarise with diverse youth work practice of city youth work
* Network with other youth workers with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
* Explore potential for follow-up activities, especially within the framework of Erasmus+: Youth in Action
The Finnish municipal youth work is characterized by wide co-operation between diverse kind of stakeholders. This co-operation involves organisations, administration, researchers and other youth work related professionals and volunteers. The youth work of the capital city region of Helsinki and the neighboring municipalities is characterised by cross-sector and cross-border co-operation. The municipal youth work in Helsinki is administered by the Youth Department of the City of Helsinki, a rather strong body with altogether 400 employees (youth workers in the field included) and over 50 youth houses. This study visit is inspired by the Europe goes local partnership and is interested to learn more how to strengthen the European and international dimension of youth work at the municipal level.
